It is told a prospector named Jacob Waltz had a rich gold mine deep in the rugged mountains east of Apache junction. The story tells of a German prospector who made periodic trips into the Superstition Mountains and returned to Phoenix with quantities of bonanza gold ore. Since the stories historic beginning, countless have given their all, searching the Superstitions for "the mother lode". One such man is Walter Gassler. He is pictured to the right. He began his search in 1934 and continued periodically his entire life. Until at the age of 82 he died of natural causes on the mountian top. |
